Avatar vs. FernGully

I was one of the three people in America who did not see Avatar in the theater. I had zero desire to see it. Even after friends would rave about the magical world of Pandora and the incredible CGI. Zero desire. Well, Avatar happens to be one of Dan's favorite movies, so one night I caved. Fine. He watches enough chick flicks with me that I figured I should do him the favor of watching a movie he likes (although he likes chick flicks so I don't think it was really fair). Anyway, I have to say that after all the refusals to see this movie...I hated it. It may have had something to do with the fact that it was a Friday night and I was exhausted from the week of waking up at 5:15 every day, but I hated it. Even worse, was that I kind of felt like it had stolen it's plot from FernGully. I received only blank stares from Dan and his roommate when I mentioned this. FernGully? Really? Did you not watch that as a kid? Because I did, all the time. So, I did some research to make sure I wasn't the only one who felt this way, and came across this little gem...

You can draw your own conclusions on the similarities and differences between these two movies. But, cute guy meets a scantily clad fairy, lies to her about who he really is so he can destroy her world, falls in love, the rainforest wins...I dunno, seems a little iffy to me...

  1. So if you are one of three people who never saw Avatar in the theatre, my co worker and I are the other two. In fact, I have never seen it, on CD or anywhere. But I am glad Dan likes chick flicks. Maybe he and I can go to the spa sometime and then come and watch my favorite movie, Pride and Predjudice.
Anyway, I love you. Be happy, Dad
